Wedding: Tracy & Joe

Sunday, July 26, 2009

Anyone in New England knows that this summer we've had rain 99.6% of the time. It's been challenging planning anything outside, including a wedding. So, it was nothing short of a miracle that an hour before Tracy and Joe's seaside wedding at the Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, the rain stopped. Fifteen minutes before the ceremony the clouds began to part. And by the time Tracy walked down the isle with her mother and father it was absolutely gorgeous out!

The Inn by the Sea is a beautiful venue for a wedding. I had not photographed here before, but hope to again soon! The wedding ceremony took place on the side lawn right next to the cottage where Tracy and Joe were staying and getting ready. Due to the mixed forecast, the outdoor reception was moved inside, but after being treated to the appearance of the sun during the ceremony I don't think anyone really minded. I began my day with a tour of the property and then over to the cottage to meet up with the nervous couple.

A few details upon my arrival...

Tracy was pretty nervous, but I think more so about the weather. At this point the rain had stopped but it was still looking pretty bleak out. Tracy getting ready with one of her girlfriends helping out:

And the beautiful bride:

Tracy and Joe were doing their best not to see one another, which was a bit of a challenge getting ready in the same small, three room cottage. Here's Tracy's father helping Joe with his boutonniere:

About this time the weather cleared and the sun came out. As guests arrived they were treated to a family friend playing solo saxophone. The scene was set beautifully for this intimate ocean-side ceremony:

And a couple more...

Following the ceremony and formal portraits, we headed to the beach. You can't have a seaside wedding and not spend some time with your toes in the sand, and I am so glad we did!

The boardwalk led to a short dune crossing—I love this shot of the newlyweds...

...and then the beach on what was now a blue-bird day!

After a too-short walk on the beach, we made our way back to the Inn for the reception and introductions as husband and wife:

And here are a couple details from the reception. "Happy Day!" indeed.

The highlight of the reception must have been the best man's toast. A few heartfelt words led to a sampled version of We Will Rock You proclaiming "Tracy and Joe are awesome". An absolute riot, and here's the couple's reactions:

And then there was cake...

And a final shot from the beach:

Thank you Tracy and Joe for inviting me to share in your wedding. It was so much fun, and such a beautiful day (and not just for the rare sunny weather!).
