Trash the dress... and the pink snake skin shoes, too

The 2010 wedding season is well under way, and I will have a couple of new wedding posts here in the not-to-distant future. In the meantime, I thought I would post some images from a fun "first" for me... a "trash the dress" session from last Fall. I did not photograph Amy and Wayne's June wedding, but did meet up with them at Hampton Beach in southern New Hampshire for a great portrait session. Seldom am I afforded so much one-on-one time with a bride and groom, and we had a blast shooting many locations in this small beach town. Obviously, on the beach...

Amy is an actress and Wayne is a musician, so both were very comfortable in front of the camera. They came to have fun, and as the right-hand image below shows, they did...

I love this next image from outside of the boarded up arcade...

After wandering the "strip" for a bit, stopping here and there for images, we meandered back out to the beach, which is when the "trash the dress" segment of the shoot started to come to fruition. We had some nice reflections by these small tidal pools, but keeping Amy's dress dry was, well, impossible.

Then we started wandering back down the beach, headed into the lowering sun. This great sepia image was a result...

However, by the time we made it to our destination, Amy's dress (left) and bright pink snake skin shoes (right) were toast! Wayne has fished the left shoe out of the quicksand-esque beach...

The playground was a great end to our shoot, and the image below on the merry-go-round is one of my favorites from the session.

Here is a parting image of Amy and Wayne coming down the kiddie slide...

I wish I always had this much time for a couple's session on the wedding day... and the ability to go at it with a damn-the-dress attitude. It's hard to ask a bride to traipse around the ocean surf before her wedding reception, though, so it's probably best suited for another day!
